The world is constantly changing and ultrabook manufacturers are becoming more freedom. After Acer TimeLine and G M3 is a HP laptop that comes with 15.6-inch ultra-thin screen. A machine between two worlds that has good assets … and a few flaws.
the promise
In May 2012, in Shanghai , HP Envy ultrabooks we presented the 15.6-inch format. Surprising from the U.S. following its rival Acer and its very good Aspire Timeline U M3 . However, on paper, the Envy 6-1070sf is not of the same ilk as his competitor. No dedicated graphics part, no processor last cry and some weaknesses of the side of the keyboard … However, reading the data sheet of the model sent by HP, we quickly realize that we are facing a great ultrabook format sold 799 euros (200 less than the 13.3-inch models), which could surprise us in some aspects.reality
The ultrabook Envy 6 treats its finish. This 15.6-inch machine mixes black brushed aluminum and dark red plastic soft. HP skillfully juggles with indications of congestion imposed by Intel. Our caliper indicates a thickness of 2.2 cm (closed hood pad included) and the needle of the balance shows 1.98 kg is the limit!Power contained
However, the brand stands for components required by the processor manufacturer. HP therefore chooses the Core i3-2367M Intel’s dual heart processor (1.4 GHz) low consumption that meets the requirements of office tasks, Internet and multimedia. It is supported by 4 GB of shared memory with the graphics controller CPU memory. We would have appreciated that HP is not confined to a definition of 1366 x 768 pixels on this machine. Why not put in this value with HD + panel (1600 x 900 pixels)?Fully framed in a thin shiny plastic, the screen lacks brightness (180 cd / m 2) but is very mixed (1 800:1). Clearly, blacks are very deep but the color rendering lack of heat.Conspicuously absent from the chassis, the DVD burner. We must be content with a multiformat card reader instead, little consolation.
The SSD and autonomy
With its SSD 128 GB (mSATA), the Envy 6 reveals a great response. However, a big machine like this, we would have appreciated a little more storage space. It is therefore necessary to appeal to two USB ports and 3 of the machine and external hard drives to store data.If the device is a bit bulky, it proves enough stamina to accompany you on a trip. Display maximum and Wi-Fi connected, it takes a little more than six hours of video playback battery! This is explained by the relatively low brightness of the panel and use the machine not exceeding 9 watts at idle (41 watts high load). The machine also pleasantly surprised by its low noise: 30.9 dB to 34.9 dB at idle and full throttle.
Too plastic keyboard
The real décepttion on the Envy 6 focuses on the keyboard. It offers a nice little plastic touch typing comfort is not really go and – most importantly – it does not have a numeric keypad.Damage to a large 15.6-inch!The touchpad, meanwhile, is large and has a nice metallic surface slightly raised using the fingertips. It allows you to run commands to multiple fingers (rotation, scrolling, etc.).. it is also possible to disable the touch of the upper left corner to avoid false manipulations.
the verdict
This large signed HP ultrabook is a surprisingly machine. Generally successful, it offers a configuration that is a very comfortable standard and endurance of six hours. However, its weight of two pounds and dimensions of 15.6 inch PC does not intend, at first, to accompany you wherever you go. Sold 799 euros and available immediately, it comes advantageously replace a desktop PC unsightly but is limited to the most common tasks and do not have either all the equipment one would expect from an ultrabook and even less of a laptop 15.6 inches. Like the Dell XPS 14 , the Envy 6 is a machine straddling two worlds.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
